GREG D. LIM

ARTIST & FOUNDER
Musician & Audio Engineer

Greg Lim, known by fans and peers as Glim, is the CEO, Founder, and composer of Glim Music. His popular work on the Mizuchi soundtrack has received many positive reviews. Known for his diverse sound, merging of artist styles, and melding of genres, Glim is actively working with streamers, podcasters, video games, films, and animations to add audio to their productions.

Early Life & Family

Glim was born November 21, 1983, in Edison, New Jersey. Surprisingly, he had zero interest in music and more interest in TV shows and Video Games, which eventually developed into an interest in soundtracks. Further, his family had little experience in music and were unable to get involved or understand his eventual interest in music. He had tried to learn the violin in 3rd grade and hated his instructor so he quit. After encouragement from his middle school choir/music teacher, he found his love for music again and began taking piano lessons but after two years the interest and focus were just not there. Once in Highschool, Glim was no longer involved in music performance, as he knew he lacked the ability to partake competitively.

The DJ

As a Junior in Highschool and starting with an interest in creating mix CDs, Glim with his neighbor Joe would have a crazy idea of trying to become DJs. With little clue as to what it meant to actually DJ, other than playing music at events, they would end up with some home-built speakers, a home amplifier, and 2 Sony Playstation consoles as cd players for their makeshift equipment. The only thing they ended up buying was a cheap $100 DJ mixer borrowed from their parents to get started and fade between the two PlayStations. Oddly enough, the pair of kids received a few gigs from supporting parents and churches despite all the professional options available and were able to eventually purchase their own set of professional equipment with the money earned.

It wouldn’t be until freshman year of college when the duo became a trio with Rushil Kalola and his skills as an actual DJ that led Glim to create a business recruiting and dispatching DJs to various events. Glim would primarily be managing the business from an administrative position but was also providing remixes having self-learned to use what was Sony’s Acid DAW and Sony’s Sound Forge Audio Editor at the time.

Education

Rutgers State University of New Jersey
Before audio and music, Glim had constantly changed majors attending Rutgers University for computer science, business school, communication, and economics degrees with advisors constantly ignoring any interest in music. Since music technology had not caught on with traditional universities in 2005, experience as a DJ and doing remixes were not considerations. Having failed multiple times at traditional degree programs, personal hardship, and deteriorating social relationships, Glim took time off to spend time in the Philippines with family.

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Manila Philippines
It was in the Philippines in 2007 that Glim first took lessons in guitar and drums, as well as taking another chance at the piano. Glim would fall in love with music again and this time committed to a Music Production program in the College of Saint Benilde in 2008. Overenthusiastic and facing some cultural barriers, Glim wanted more out of his music that was not available in the newly established degree program at the time. With this, he explored further options to learn and grow in his craft.

Institute of Audio Research (IAR)
Taking a trip to NYC to attend AES in 2010, Glim took a leap and applied to the Institute of Audio Research (IAR), and having been given a partial scholarship and government grant, Glim set his ears on Audio Engineering and left the Philippines. Glim would go on to attain his Associate's Degree at IAR with a 3.96 GPA and utilize his education to work on some early projects doing sound effects for animations, directing/coaching voice actors with home recording setups, and producing 19 Audiobooks on the Audible platform with his company EDEN Innovative Services Inc., an international business was based in the US and the Philippines.

Full Sail University
It would be in 2017 when Glim had to close his company and move back to the US. In 2018 after following a request to compose what were to be some simple tracks for the visual novel game, Mizuchi, he would return to pursuing education in Music Production. Glim had applied to Berklee College of Music and Full Sail University and had the opportunity to choose between the two. With considerations of marketing, modern music, music technology, and networking, he would decide to go to Full Sail University as it also had degrees in Video Game Production and Film Production. Set to graduate in November 2021 Glim is currently maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Personal Struggles

Since the age of 13, mental illness has been a constant struggle for Glim. Managing suicidal thoughts, depression, and facing social problems such as racism and bullying early on, Glim turned to music and video games to distract himself from the pain, all of which affected him academically. It wasn’t until high school that Glim self hacked his mentality by deciding that instead of throwing his life away, he wanted to use the life he had to pursue helping others in need. It was a realization that he would try to be what he imagined others would be if they were to help him. The struggle still exists, but a supportive wife, peers, a sense of purpose, and experience of what can be achieved with each step that is taken have kept him going strong. This pain would be the driving force behind Glim’s determination and ambitious pursuit to succeed.

The CEO of EDEN Innovative Services, Inc.

In pursuit of creating a sustainable future, Glim co-founded with his business partner, Neelesh Harmalker, EDEN Innovative Services, Inc in 2013 which started as an audiobook and podcast editing service, and directed/trained voice actors. Having seen the struggles of managing projects as a startup as well as from the perspective of a freelancer, EDEN would be established to create and manage a system of workflow management between clients and independent contractors. Project managers would help maintain, predict, and manage quality control of projects which expanded beyond audiobooks, to comic books, web design, brand management, social media management, and other project implementation. EDEN was recognized as one of Red Herring’s Asia’s top 100 startups in 2004.

It was through EDEN, that Glim had hoped to provide a place for independent artists to thrive. Glim had envisioned a company where the team-building sessions for his employees would be combined with tax-deductible community service involvement with after-school centers, built by EDEN, for underprivileged children.

The Composer/Musician

Having worked on music as an Audio Engineer, Glim developed an ear for working on various genres of music. After working on sound effects for a project for Altabe Studios, a sister production group of Altabe, Aikasa Collective, recruited Glim to produce music for the trailer of Mizuchi. Even though it was supposed to be just one to two tracks for the game and its trailer, the director of Aikasa asked Glim to produce the entirety of the soundtrack. Seeking further knowledge in music production and improvement in the craft for the project, Glim pursued his education at Full Sail University. After a few delays, Mizuchi would be released in August of 2020 with its soundtrack being Glim’s strong debut as a composer and music producer.

Continuing to work on various projects, Glim has produced or is working on music and/or sound effects for three game jams, three Full Sail student video game capstones, a podcast, three streamer’s themes, and three more games in development. Some of the most notable of the upcoming projects are his album, ‘The Glim Lit Path’, ‘XrossBeat’, the full production of 'I Died In A Cave’, and a second project being developed by Aikasa Collective.
